Steven Universe Season 5 Episode 25

“Legs From Here to Homeworld” is the 25th episode of the fifth season of Steven Universe, the 153rd episode overall, and the first episode of Diamond Days.

Official synopsis

Steven travels to see his family.[2]

Conspiracy

The episode picks up where “Reunited” left off. Blue Diamond is overjoyed that Pink Diamond is alive after all and cuddling with Steven, but Yellow Diamond complains why did Pink let them think she was broken, the weird disguise, doing the voice and not telling them in court . Steven explains to her that his mother Pink kept it a secret from everyone, then Pearl clears her throat and reminds him that he meant almost everyone. Yellow is confused by the term “mom” and asked what he was talking about. Steven talks that they don’t know what mom is and explains that Pink created her new rose quartz form after pretending to break it and that he is a whole new life created by Rose giving up her physical form and while he has her gem and some of her powers, he has no memories of Pink or Rose Quartz. Yellow notes that his memories may be “in there somewhere”, but said that it is about “Steven”. Blue is surprised that he and the other crystal gems were not destroyed by the diamonds’ final attack. Steven explains to them that the gems hit by the attack weren’t exactly erased, but damaged.

The Gems then warp to the Centipede’s dropship as Steven proceeds to show the corrupted Centipede to the Diamonds. Steven begs the Diamonds to fix her, although they are reluctant as they have never seen a damaged gem before and are not sure where to even begin. Yellow finally agrees to give it a try, though he makes no promises of success. Yellow uses her power to transform her into her original form, but her mind remains corrupted. Blue uses her power to restore Centipede’s mind and voice to a coherent state, though she is stuck in a continuous loop of reliving the moments just before she was corrupted. Steven uses his healing spit to calm her down, allowing her to regain her senses for the first time since her corruption.

Centipede, now fully healed, introduces herself as Nephrite Facet-413 Cabochon-12 and apologizes for “disobeying the orders of my Hessonites”, but is relieved that the Diamonds are on Earth, believing they must have defeated Rose Quartz. Yellow and Blue Diamond let go of her in shame and Nephrite immediately reverts to her corrupted state.

A frustrated Yellow laments to Steven about how many “perfectly adequate gems [he had] ruined.” Steven is unfazed and demands that they try to heal her again since apparently they have the power to do so. However, Yellow states that it won’t work with just the three of them and that they need White Diamond to make the cure permanent. Pearl and Blue Diamond express their doubts about White Diamond helping Steven, adding that White hasn’t left the homeworld in ages. At Steven’s urging, they travel to Rose’s Landfill to find Pink Diamond’s Ship so they can travel to Homeworld. After recovering the boat, the group returns to the beach to prepare for the trip. Connie tells her parents that it will be a diplomatic mission and Pearl tells them that she will be with Connie the whole time and will know the planet. Priyanka Maheswaran agrees and Connie hugs them. All the while, Amethyst is excited to be going to Homeworld for the first time. Steven hugs his father and the lion.

The Crystal Gems (except for Bismuth, who decided to stay in Beach City to guard the sunken Lapis Lazuli and Peridot’s gems) along with the Diamonds board the ship and leave Earth. During their flight and in hyperspace to Homeworld, Connie and Amethyst have been asleep since leaving Earth, and both Diamonds express concern for White, fearing her anger, as the revelation that Rose was a Pink Diamond means that the events of the last six thousand years were “the greatest galactic disgrace”. Yellow matter-of-factly advises Steven to let her talk if he doesn’t want to be in a bubble for several millennia when he arrives, since the chances of Steven being heard are slim.

Upon arrival, when Connie and Amethyst wake up, she and Steven see the ring planet Homeworld for the first time. After the ship landed, Yellow told the Crystal Gems to wait so she and Blue would return for them once White’s temper cooled, which could take a while. Then the group is surprised to hear cheers, exiting the ship and seeing a crowd of Homeworld gems gathered outside the landing dock in a formation reminiscent of the original four diamond symbol to celebrate Pink Diamond’s return. Steven is momentarily reassured as he believes that the gathered gems are on his side and thinks, “Maybe it won’t be so bad.” The crowd stops cheering as the White Diamond pearl suddenly appears in front of them. White’s Pearl informs the group that White Diamond wishes to see “Pink Diamond”, but as Yellow and Blue prepare to follow, White’s Pearl makes it clear that only Pink Diamond’s (Steven’s) presence is needed.

The White Pearl then transports Steven directly to the White Diamond ship. White Diamond welcomes Steven—as “Pink” and “Starlight”—home, talking condescendingly and not listening to anything he says. It then immediately transports him to a pink room full of bubbles overlooking the city, presumably Pink Diamond’s old palace. Steven looks across the plaza at the White Diamond ship.

Details

From this episode, all four Diamonds and their pearls officially debuted.

This is Amethyst and Connie’s first visit to Homeworld.

This is Steven’s second visit to Homeworld since his first visit in Wanted before he found the truth.

Before Steven helps Yellow and Blue Diamond temporarily heal Nephrite, Nephrite repeats “No, please, no! No! No! We’ll all-“. This is most likely what she said right before she was corrupted.

This is the last episode to use the title card of the Crystal Temple hand.

Cultural references

White Pearl’s hairstyle is similar to the Star Wars character Princess Leia.

Nephrite’s Facet number is 413, the main arc number of the Homestuck webcomic. One of the episode’s script artists, Danny Cragg, is a close friend of Homestuck author Andrew Hussie and is part of the team producing the spin-off game Hiveswap.

The White Diamond design references the Statue of Liberty with the shape of the hair and shoes.

Continuity

The title card features yellow and blue diamond ship pieces scattered across the beach.

It’s similar to how the Gem Warship pieces were shown in the “Full Disclosure” and “Joy Ride” title cards.

This episode picks up shortly where “Reunited” left off.
