“Mr. Frog” is the second episode of the first season of Smiling Friends on January 16, 2022.
After beloved frog celebrity Mr. Frog lands in hot water, Pim and Charlie are tasked with helping the friendly amphibian get things back on track. Meanwhile, Glep has a crazy side adventure that will drive critics crazy.[1]
The episode begins with a typical episode of The Mr. Frog Show; the title star runs forward, says his name is mr. Frog, saying it’s his show, announces that he’s going to eat a bug – before eating the bug on the rock next to him – saying that he just ate a bug, that the show is over and that he loves the viewer. The narrator then reveals that Mr. Frog’s show ran for 47 seasons and broke every television record, with the show’s craze being dubbed “Frogmania”. However, Mr. Frog was recently fired from the show for trying to swallow a TMZ reporter, so they are looking for new talent.
In Smiling Friends Inc., Charlie expresses his displeasure at the idea of Mr. Frog being replaced, while Pim says he’s never seen the show. Their boss overhears and suggests that the two try to help him. Meanwhile, Glep is auditioning for Mr. Frog and wins the role by simply spitting on the producer after mocking Glep’s appearance.
Pim and Charlie arrive at Mr. Frog’s mansion, where Mr. Frog spends his free time watching Jimmy Fallon clips on YouTube. When Pim suggests that Mr. Frog apologize, the mortified host declares that he has no regrets about trying to eat the TMZ reporter. Charlie then suggests that they try to improve his image in other ways. Meanwhile, Glep attends a script reading for his debut episode, with the rest of the crew erupting in hysterics when he spits. However, the producer tells Glep to stop the spitting because it would remind people too much of Mr. Frog, and tries to blame Glep for stopping the spitting. Charlie for fans of Mr. Frog organizes a Meet and Greet, although due to being on drugs, Mr. Frog chokes a fan for a supposed scam. Pim and Charlie decide to try to get him to donate a large amount of money to cheer him up, while also making him go cold turkey. However, Mr. Frog then accidentally cuts the giver’s hands with the check. Unsure of what to do, Charlie gives Mr. Frog sleeping pills before remembering that Mr. Frog likes Jimmy Fallon and gets him a spot on the show. However, Mr Frog goes on a racist tirade live on the show, much to the shock of Pim, Charlie and even Jimmy, damaging his reputation beyond repair.
Meanwhile, Glep auditions for the show, but is constantly scolded by the producer. The crowd is forced to abandon the joke, booing it and the producer during the premiere, before Mr. Frog storms onto the stage and apologizes for everything he’s done in the past few days. The producer tries to tell him that his life is still ruined and that he’s still a toxic person before Mr. Frog rushes over and swallows him whole, causing the crowd to cheer. Charlie and Pim then question whether or not they are directly responsible for the producer’s death. The episode ends with the narrator saying that the clip of Mr. Frog eating the producer led to his popularity coming back, but instead of signing a new contract, he decided to do the show himself and own 100% of the profits, became the richest and most powerful man on the planet. Mr. Frog then appears and tries to attack the narrator with a hammer.
